ENAMELWARE PAINTERS IN KASHMIR
All our enamelware products are made by Kashmiri painters. The items are individually handpainted by artisans under the umbrella of a well established export company. The company promotes craftmanship from the region as well as looks after the wellbeing of its community. Kashmir is an area of civil strife and war due to separatists movements. Our producers are hardworkers who aren’t interested in fighting. They just want to earn an honest living.
The Kashmiri workers are not working in a factory but take raw materials from the company and work from home. They are given the best rates of pay when they start working on the items. The company started making enamelware 10 years ago and assures us that their workers are getting good benefits and earning good amounts in rupees per day.
This is what the manager Parveez has to say:
“AND IN THEIR HOMES THE LADIES WHO ARE MARRIED ARE NOW WORKING TO HELP THEIR FAMILIES. RURAL PEOPLE ALSO WORK NOW THE LADIES ARE WORKING MORE HERE IN KASHMIR. MY WORKERS LIVE IN GOOD CONDITIONS AND THEIR CHILDREN ARE GOING GOOD SCHOOLS. LIKE SO MANY WORKERS WHO ARE WORKING WITH ME THEIR CHILDREN ARE NOW BECOMING ENGINEER AND GOING FOR HIGHER STUDIES.WE PAY THEM ADVANCE WHEN EVER THEY NEED FOR EXAMPLE THEIR DAUGHTERS MARRAIGE OR PURCHASING LAND OR BUILDING HOUSES. If you would like to donate any money to support sustainable business that supports children and rural communities or any of Parveez’ sports initiatives, please follow this link: https://www.charitycheckout.
We use donations as seed money to fund production of handicrafts that generate income for the handicrafts workers.
All enamelware products have got product testing certificates from India showing that they are food safe. However Little Trove are not in a position to carry out testing and pay high fees for those in the UK. All our products are essentially handicrafts that do not carry mandatory testing requirements.
Enamelware items are made of stainless steel. Not dishwasher proof. Handwash is recommended without an abrasive sponge/brush. When first opened from the plastic, it may contain an odour that will dissipate after a few washes if not immediately.
